Decarbonizing Our Operations: Committing to a Sustainable Future

In today’s society, the construction and management of buildings play a crucial role in our collective pursuit of carbon neutrality. Collective awareness is becoming more and more necessary, and the construction sector is far from an exception…

But how, within construction, can we reduce our ecological impact? At APIHS, we’re committed to doing exactly that.

First, it’s worth putting the ecological footprint of the construction sector in perspective with a few numbers. In fact, the construction sector contributes 23% of air pollution, 40% of drinking water pollution, and 50% of landfill waste.

Indeed, the construction sector is one of the biggest consumers of natural resources, half of which are non-renewable. Wildlife and plant life are also among the first casualties of the light and noise pollution generated by construction activities.

And that’s not all. According to the UN report on post-COVID-19 emissions, the building sector directly and indirectly accounts for 38% of global energy-related CO2 emissions — a rate that continues to climb. One of the main reasons for this increase is the widespread use of coal, oil, and natural gas for everyday and large-scale uses, from heating to cooling buildings. In Québec, buildings are responsible for 10% of GHG emissions.

Given this alarming reality, it’s imperative that new housing, offices, and equipment be designed and managed sustainably. Yet the numbers show that, globally, fewer than 1% of new construction projects assess their carbon footprint. The IPCC also stresses that operational emissions from buildings must be reduced by at least 95% by 2050 to limit global warming.

Faced with these critical challenges, the building industry holds considerable potential to help meet these targets. Aware of these pressing challenges and the climate emergency we face, APIHS is fully committed to actively participating in reducing emissions in the construction sector. By developing fully eco-friendly insulation products, we aspire to play a leading role in the ecological transition. Our products, currently under development, are designed to significantly reduce reliance on heating and cooling, offering insulation suited to both private residences and industrial facilities.

We are also pursuing the goal of developing innovative, non-toxic products tailored to local climate conditions in the specific field of insulation.

We invite you to join us in this critical mission for a more sustainable future in the construction sector. Together, we can make a real difference!
